What is your Skincare Routine?

Skincare is key – the skin is the largest organ on the body, therefore offering a protective layer to the internal parts of our body. For many people, healthy, youthful looking skin provides a boost to our confidence and self-esteem. Those who struggle with unhealthy skin seem to age quicker and may experience negative self-image and mental health issues.

Thankfully, with proper care and knowledge, healthy glowing skin can be reached!

Here are some steps to reach YOUR skincare goals.

Cleansing is an essential step not only to preventing acne, and other spots but also to prevent any signs of aging. I recommend washing your face twice daily, this should be repeated once in the morning and once in the evening before bed. Cleansing your face is more than just splashing it with water. First you need to properly remove any makeup. Next you can begin to massage your cleanser in, and this should be done for 2-3 minutes. Next rinse!

Once you’ve finished your cleansing process, you’re going to tone. Toner isn’t only meant to remove any extra debris that your cleansing process may have missed but it is a crucial step to balancing your skin’s PH levels. Having a proper PH level allows your skin to combat free radicals as well as destroy any bacteria that it may face.

Exfoliating is another important step to your skincare routine. It will help remove dead skin built up, allowing products to better penetrate. Sometimes exfoliating can be harsh on the skin therefore I recommend only exfoliating 2-3 times per week. Remember to avoid direct sun exposure for 24 hours post exfoliating!

Next up are serums. Serums are a vital part of keeping your skin healthy, bright and wrinkle free. It’s very important to choose the right serum for your age and skin type. Whether you’re looking for a serum to improve the appearance of acne, wrinkles or sun damage, you should always consult with your provider prior to making a decision!

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again, WEAR YOUR SPF! An SPF 30 or higher should always be worn, whether the sun is out, or the clouds have taken over. There are several sunscreens available to us but be sure you’re using a physical sunscreen. Physical sunscreens contain Zinc and Titanium Dioxide which will bounce the sun rays rather than absorb them. Although sun provides us Vitamin D and can be very beneficial to our bodies, remember to enjoy the sun in moderation while protecting yourself.
